The General Directorate of Archives (GDA) is set to tell the story of the past using state-of-the-art technology. The Archives Museum, highly acclaimed by leading museologists from the US to Japan, has opened its doors to the general public. The institution's website is available here
Present at the inauguration ceremony of this spot, which brings the nation's documentary heritage closer to the Albanian people, were the General Director of Archives, Mr. Auron Rrokaj; the Chairman of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, Mr. Skënder Gjinushi; the Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Ms. Lira Pipa; the Director of the National Gallery of Arts, Ms. Adela Demetja; the Deputy Ambassador of PR of China to Albania, Mr. Huang Xuehu; and members of the diplomatic corps from friendly nations, Chief Inspector General Mr. Dashnor Sula; Archive Museum curators: Mr. Ardit Bido, Mr. Aleksandër Çifligu, and Mr. Ardian Isufi; heads of partner institutions in the region; representatives of the clergy, researchers and journalists.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Rrokaj stated that the Archive Museum was conceived to bring archives closer to the public through digital interaction. “This event has been organized under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Albania; he intended to be present but, due to an unexpected circumstance, is unable to attend today. "This is an archival museum, not a museum of archives." It is a museum of documents, and the most beautiful, modern museum Albania has today.” "It is a museum that traces the human life cycle and the documents human society produces throughout it. Naturally, these are documents concerning Albanians and Albania, spanning from birth to death. The museum is interactive; it is designed so that the visitor is not merely an observer but actively engages with the museum itself. Young people will love it. They should come and see the museum, for in doing so, they will rediscover a love for paper, which is preserved and made accessible in this building," said the head of the GDA.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Academy of Science of Albania congratulated the General Directorate of Archives for this initiative, which has been implemented in line with the demands of the times. "Archives are now organized in a modern manner, meeting contemporary requirements. The heritage law specifically allows institutions to maintain autonomous museums; within the framework of an open society, this certainly grants the public direct access to the institution, helping to demystify archives, which are often perceived as enigmatic." "The Academy of Sciences also has an Archaeology Museum, and we will certainly cooperate in order to benefit from your experience in achieving the most modern and effective presentation possible. The museum serves to encourage people—and young people in particular, to make greater use of archives. Congratulations and best wishes; we will follow your example for our own museum," concluded Mr. Gjinushi.
Hundreds of reproduced documents, as well as digitized audio, film, and photographic materials, form part of the museum's permanent exhibition. This sport conveys a narrative of the history of Albania and the Albanian people across the centuries, drawing upon archival components (such as the library, the photo archive, the audiovisual archive, etc.). Conceived in a form of a “lifeline,” the permanent exhibition also presents aspects of social life, including birth, love, and faith, as well as deprivation, divorce, and death.
Alongside conventional methods, the common past is conveyed through the digital interaction of visitors. Features such as the historical calendar, document restoration, questionaries on significant events and people, and the dialectal diversity of the Albanian language are designed to impart information through entertainment.
Meanwhile, throughout October, the temporary exhibition will welcome local and foreing visitors with Byzantine and post-Byzantine codices from the "Collection of Codices of Albania" archival fund.
"On the surface where these two pavilions are situated, the statements and principles of the most important Albanian historical people are inscribed, symbolizing the foundations upon which we move toward the future."
"The implementation of the GDA’s innovative projects is the result of investments made by the Albanian government. The opening of the Archival Museum fulfills the vision of transforming archives into a contemporary cultural alternative, together with the Auditorium Hall, the Summer Cinema/Theatre with a seating capacity of 140, and the outdoor study space."

Drejtoria e Përgjithshme e Arkivave (DPA) do të rrëfejë të shkuarën me fjalën e fundit të teknologjisë. Muzeu Arkivor, i vlerësuar maksimalisht prej muzeologëve më në zë, nga SHBA-ja në Japoni, ka hapur dyert për publikun e gjerë.
Në ceremoninë e përurimit të kësaj hapësirë që sjell trashëgiminë dokumentare të kombit më afër shqiptarëve, ishin të pranishëm Drejtori i Përgjithshëm i Arkivave Z. Auron Rrokaj, kryetari i Akademisë së Shkencave të Shqipërisë Z. Skënder Gjinushi, zëvendësministrja e Kulturës, Turizmit dhe Sportit Znj. Lira Pipa, Drejtoresha e Galerisë Kombëtare të Arteve, Znj. Adela Demetja, zëvendësambasadori i Kinës në Shqipëri, Z. Huang Xuehu, pjesëtarë të trupave diplomatikë të vendeve mike, Kryeinspektori i Përgjithshëm Z. Dashnor Sula, kuratorët e Muzeut Arkivor Z. Ardit Bido, Z. Aleksandër Çifligu dhe Z. Ardian Isufi, drejtues të intitucioneve bashkëpunëtore në rajon, ish-kreu i DPA-së Z. Gjet Ndoj, eksponentë të klerit, studiues dhe gazetarë.
Në fjalën e tij përshëndetëse, Z. Rrokaj u shpreh se Muzeu Arkivor është konceptuar për të sjellë arkivat pranë pubikut, përmes ndërveprimit digjital. “Ky event është organizuar nën kujdesin e kryeministrit, i cili do të ishte i pranishëm, por si shkak i një ndodhie të papritur, nuk mund të jetë sot këtu. Ky është një muze arkivor, nuk është një muze i arkivit. Është muze i dokumenteve, muzeu më i bukur, më modern që ka Shqipëria sot. Është një muze që ndjek ciklin e jetës së njeriut dhe dokumentet që shoqëria njerëzore prodhon gjatë tij. Natyrisht janë dokumente që flasin për shqiptarët, për Shqipërinë që nisin me lindjen dhe përfundojnë me vdekjen. Muzeu është ndërveprues, është konceptuar në mënyrë që vizitori mos jetë thjesht një soditës, por të ndërveprojë me vetë muzeun. Të rinjve do t'iu pëlqejë shumë. Të vijnë të shohin muzeun, sepse ashtu do të rigjejnë dashurinë për letrën, që në këtë ndërtesë ruhet dhe shërbehet”, tha kreu i DPA-së.
Ndërsa në fjalën e tij të rastit, kryetari i ASHSH-së përgëzoi DPA-në për këtë nismë, të konkretizuar sipas ritmit të kohës. ”Tashmë arkivat janë të organizuara në mënyrë moderne sipas kërkesave të kohës. Ligji i trashëgimisë lejon pikërisht që institucionet të kenë edhe muze autonomë, që patjetër bëjnë që në kuadrin e shoqërisë së hapur, publiku të ketë një akses të drejtëpërdrejtë mbi institucionin, pasi kuptohet që arkivat kanë një enigmë zakonisht. Edhe pranë Akademisë së Shkencave ka një muze të arkeologjisë dhe sigurisht do të bashkëpunojmë që të marrim nga përvoja juaj, për një paraqitje sa më moderne dhe efikase. Muzeu shërben që njerëzit e sidomos të rinjtë të jenë më prezentë në përdorimin e arkivave. Urime e suksese dhe do të ndjekim shembullin tuaj për muzeun tonë”, përmbylli Z. Gjinushi.
Qindra dokumente të riprodhuara, materiale dëgjimore, filmike dhe fotografike të digjitalizuara janë pjesë e ekspozitës së përhershme të muzeut. Kjo hapësirë përcjell një narrativë mbi historinë e Shqipërisë dhe të shqiptarëve ndër shekuj, përmes një komponenti arkivor (Bibliotekës, Fototekës, Arkivit Audiovizual etj). E konceptuar në formën e “linjës së jetës”, ekspozita e përhershme paraqet edhe aspekte të jetës shoqërore, që përfshijnë lindjen, dashurinë, besimin, por edhe privimin, divorcin dhe vdekjen.
Krahas mënyrës konvencionale, e shkuara e përbashkët transmetohet përmes ndërveprimit digjital të vizitorëve. Kalendari historik, restaurimi i dokumenteve, pyetësorët për ngjarje/figura me peshë, si edhe larmishmëria dialektore e shqipes, janë rubrika të ideuara për të përçuar informacion nëpërmjet zbavitjes.
Ndërsa ekspozita e përkohshme, do të mirëpresë gjatë muajit tetor vizitorët vendas dhe të huaj me kodikë bizantinë dhe pasbizantinë, pjesë e fondit "Koleksioni i Kodikëve të Shqipërisë".
Në sipërfaqen ku shtrihen këto dy pavijone, gjenden të mbishkruara postulatet e personaliteteve shqiptare më të rëndësishme në histori, që simbolizojnë themelet mbi të cilat ecim drejt të ardhmes.
Jetëzimi i projekteve novatore të DPA-së eshtë rezultat i investimeve të qeverisë shqiptare. Hapja e Muzeut Arkivor është përmbushja e vizionit për t’i shndërruar arkivat në një alternativë kulturore bashkëkohore, së bashku me sallën e “Auditorium"-it, të Kinemasë/Teatrit Veror me kapacitet prej 140 ulësesh dhe të hapësirës së studimit në natyrë.
