The University Archives and Research Institutions Section of the International Council on Archives successfully held its annual conference, at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in collaboration with the Committee on Archives of Science and Technology and the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Coimbra from the 8th to 10th September.
The conference themes were broadly relating to different aspects of environmental history. The APE participated in the conference through supporting a panel on global perspectives on energy sector archives. The 3-person panel was chaired by Kolya Abramsky (Special Advisor on Archives to the World Wind Energy Association), had presentations from Elizabeth Bartram (Director of the Mills Archives Trust, UK), Hui Chen (Associate Professor at School of Information Management, Central China Normal University, Wuhan, China), and Daniel Moreno (Cognitive Artist, Portugal, speaking on behalf of Marta Musso for APE).
The panel gave an overview of energy archives in a global context, spoke about archival collections relating to wind and water power held in the UK, standards for records management relating to the renewable energy sector in China, and the EOGAN international energy archives network and its collaboration with APE.
The conference was attended by about 80 people from 15 countries, and APE brochures were disturbed to all attendees, who also had the chance to learn further about APE through questions to the panel. This included sharing information about APE to the various archives and digital preservation companies who had sponsored the conference.
The panel participants are grateful to the APE for supporting this panel.
