The World Wind Energy Association and the Mills Archive Trust have organised a webinar on "The History of Wind Power: From its Early Beginnings to the Present Day", that will present the history of wind power starting in 1883 until today. Humankind learned how to use the energy from wind for milling, pumping etc, centuries of even thousands of years ago, and, in the age of electrification, started to generate electricity from wind mills in the late 19th century - according to today’s knowledge starting in Vienna in 1883. After a number of pioneers made basic inventions until the first World War, the time between the two World Wars saw the first industrial and systematic scientific activities. Although in some parts of the world, wind was used as electricity sources in the post-war period, the big breakthrough came in the time of the oil crisis, hand in hand with an emerging environmental awareness.
The webinar will take place on 3 June 2025 at 1 pm CEST. Registration is free at this link.
