Our APE grantee Giulia Giannola, who won the APE Creative Grant in 2023, has created a new iteration of the project that won the grant, “Archival Ghosts”, which consists in the creation of 3D models and holograms based on drawings and stories from the archives.
A further development of this project led to the creation of jewelry derived from original ancient drawings preserved in the State Archive of Modena. From the drawing, a 3D model was created, followed by a 3D metal print. With the help of a jeweller, the piece was then refined and set with stones.
This jewel is an example of ancient jewellery, brought back to life through the combined use of modern and traditional techniques. The jewel will displayed in early June 2026, during the archival nation-wide festival Archivissima, in Italy, at the State Archive of Modena.
Archivissima is the Italian festival dedicated to the promotion of heritage preserved in the historical archives of public bodies, institutions, and companies.
