On the 15th November 2023, the Expert Group on Archival Description (EGAD) of the International Council on Archives (ICA) will publish version 1.0 of Records in Contexts Conceptual Model (RiC-CM) and of its OWL technical representation, Records in Contexts Ontology (RiC-O).
RiC-CM 1.0 and RiC-O 1.0, as two major components of the new RiC standard on archival description, will no longer constitute drafts, but official versions, resulting from several years of work and from the systematic consideration of the numerous comments received.
The EGAD group is organizing, at the same time, the first event entirely dedicated to early implementations of RiC, on the 15th November from 9am CET
Indeed, numerous projects using RiC (for the moment, mainly RiC-O 0.2, that was released in February 2021) have emerged since 2018 around the world, in institutions and teams of varied sizes and types, and are now often relatively advanced. It is obviously not possible, in a single day, to draw up a complete inventory of all these projects. However, this first overview aims to allow anyone interested (archivists, records managers, cultural heritage professionals, researchers, engineers, etc.) to better understand the landscape and the practices that are emerging, the different situations and problems where RiC proves to be useful and the issues identified, the variety of methods used and choices made when RiC is implemented, and finally the meaning and nature of these operations, and their interest for users.
This study day should also be an opportunity to exchange views, identify possible trends and common points, and contribute to the construction of a community of interests and practices. You can access the provisional program of this event (in English and French) here
The study day will take place at the Archives nationales de France (AnF) which is organizing it with the ICA/EGAD group, as well as online. It is open to all without restrictions and without fees.
All you need to do is register, using the form that is available here: https://framaforms.org/
Presentations will be given in French or in English.
