On May 28 the exhibition “Rome Year Zero. June 4, 1944 - April 25, 1945. From the End of the Occupation to the Liberation” will be presented, produced for the 80th anniversary of April 25 by the Rome State Archives in collaboration with the Historical Museum of the Liberation of Rome and the Home Movies Foundation - National Archive of Family Film (Bologna), under the Patronage of the Municipality of Rome.
Taking its cue from institutional events, court cases and news events attested by archival documents, the initiative highlights political temperament, public spirit and living conditions in Rome in the period from the end of the Nazi-Fascist occupation of the city (June 4, 1944) to the National Liberation. Overall, the approach to a plurality of sources, ranging from judicial and police records to the propaganda press, from the photographs of investigator Giuseppe Dosi to the amateur short films of Adriano Agottani, returns not only an official reading of events but, as in the investigative judgment for the murder of Donato Carretta, interprets individual and collective behaviors and psychologies, capturing light and shadow, portraits of people and scenes of real life in the Roman suburbs.
The opening event will take place at the Rome State Archives, Sala Alessandrina (Corso del Rinascimento, 40) on May 28, 2025, 4 pm. It will have these speakers participating:
- Antonio Tarasco, Director General of Archives
- Riccardo Gandolfi, Director of the Rome State Archives
- Filippo Vignato, Rome State Archives
- Enzo Pio Pignatiello, Rome State Archives.
