The Icon Book and Paper Group is preparing to host its 2025 Conference, “Conservation Uncovered: Investigation and Discovery in Treatment and Analysis”, which will take place from 22–24 October 2025 at The National Archives in Kew, London, and online. The event promises to be a significant gathering for conservators, emerging professionals, and students, offering a platform to explore the latest discoveries and innovations in book and paper conservation.
The conference will focus on how detailed investigation and analysis guide conservation decisions and enrich our understanding of cultural heritage collections. Topics include the influence of material analysis, historical research, and close observation on treatment choices, as well as how new approaches can transform perspectives on cultural heritage materials.
The full programme has now been released and can be viewed on the Icon website. Highlights include:
- Exclusive tours of The National Archives facilities and conservation studios across London
- A panel discussion with the Icon Heritage Science Group
- A variety of presentations, from full-length talks to lightning sessions and posters
- Keynotes from Josep Grau-Bové (UCL) and Cordelia Rogerson (British Library)
- An evening reception providing opportunities for networking
This hybrid conference will allow participants to engage either in person at The National Archives, Kew, London, or virtually through the online platform.
Registration is now open until 3 October 2025, and further information, including the full programme, can be found here:
