Date Filter

Help Troubleshooting How can I search by DATE ?

If you are looking for a specific date or filter, the best way to do it is by treating the date as a keyword, in combination with the other keywords of your search. For example:

  • If you are looking for a precise date, you can search for “1 January 1876” or “01/01/1876”, or “January 1876” etc. Keep in mind the multilingualism of the portal when writing the month!
  • If you are looking for a decade or period, you can use “187*” which will scrape into 1870-1879”, or “18*” for the whole 19th century, etc
  • You can also try to use the wording by century, like “19th century”

We are working on re-enabling a full date filter that can be applied after the search, but this requires dates to be available in machine-readable format, i.e., with the correct date tags applied. At the moment, this corresponds to only a fraction of the material available in APE and we are looking into extending the options available to our Content Providers to automatically create machine-readable dates during data processing.
