Our Content Provider the National Library of Scotland, in collaboration with the University of the West of Scotland, will be running a 3-day workshop for Scotland-based participants of Palestinian descent, creatively responding to rarely-seen Scottish film archives of 1930s Palestine.
"Performing Diasporic Archival Counternarratives" is a workshop being held as part of a PhD research project at the University of the West of Scotland, led by Greek-Palestinian PhD researcher and filmmaker Theo Panagopoulos.
The workshop explores the potential of a colonial film archive depicting rarely-seen 1930s Palestine, presenting coloured film images from 1935 Tiberias, in empowering the diasporic Palestinian community to reassert agency and create counternarratives through writing, performing and filming (no previous experience necessary).
Participants will explore their own connection with the material through writing, performing and filming. The workshop will take place in English.
