The Library Syndicate at the University of Cambridge invites applications for the Munby Fellowship in Bibliography for the tenure of 1 October 2021 to 31 July 2022.
The Munby Fellow will be free to pursue research of their choosing in any area of the wide fields of Bibliography and the History of the Book. It is, however, expected that the Fellow's research will be, at least in part, based directly or indirectly on the collections of the University and Colleges of Cambridge and likely to be of benefit, in the broadest sense, to scholars using those collections in the future. The Fellow is also expected to participate fully in the life and activities of the University Library, e.g. through participation in the Library's research and public engagement programmes (comprising activities such as talks, seminars, displays, participation in social media, and other events).
The Fellowship is open to graduates in any discipline of any university and nationality. Applications will be evaluated by a panel comprising the Electors to the Fellowship and the following criteria will be taken into account, with preference given to scholars at post-doctoral or an equivalent level:
- Academic record of the candidate, taking into account the career stage of the applicant
- Suitability of the research proposal as an area within the fields of Bibliography and the History of the Book
- Potential of the research proposal to be of benefit to future scholars using the collections of the University and Colleges of Cambridge
- Evidence of ability to contribute fully to the life and activities of the University Library
The stipend will be £35,845 (pro-rata). Around £1,500 for help with research expenses is also available.
Candidates should be advised that the ongoing situation with the Covid-19 pandemic could affect the level of access to library collections and facilities for the Munby Fellow, and should take this into account when considering their research proposal.
They welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements. They particularly welcome applications from candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level.
The closing date for applications is 19 February 2021.
