Institut national de recherche pédagogique (France ; 1976-2010)
L’INRP est organisé en directions de programme et services de soutien et de la valorisation de la recherche.
À partir d’octobre 1990, une organisation par département et unité de recherche est mise en place pour les activités de recherche, de production et de mise à disposition des ressources documentaires. Le 4 mars 2003, la signature du premier contrat d’objectifs entre l’État et l’INRP engage les parties dans un contrat quinquennal de développement pour la période 2002-2006. L’INRP évolue alors vers une nouvelle politique scientifique liée à la recherche universitaire et une nouvelle organisation est mise en place : création d’unités mixtes de recherche (UMR), d’équipes de recherche en technologie éducative (ERTé) et d'autres équipes en projet.

Le point de départ de l’Institut national de recherche pédagogique (INRP) est la création de l’Institut national de recherche et de documentation pédagogique (INRDP) en 1970. L’histoire de l’INRP s’inscrit également dans le sillon d’établissements plus anciens (Institut pédagogique national créé en 1956, Centre national de documentation pédagogique créé en 1937, musée pédagogique créé en 1879) actifs en matière de pédagogie et d’éducation.
Placé sous l’autorité du ministre de l’Éducation nationale, l’INRDP est un établissement nouveau créé le 9 septembre 1970 après la réorganisation de l’Institut pédagogique national (IPN). Cet établissement assure à sa création des recherches fondamentales ou appliquées concernant les enseignements de tous niveaux.
Le 3 août 1976, l’INRDP prend le nom d’Institut national de recherche pédagogique (INRP).
En 1980, le musée pédagogique, rattaché à l’INRP, quitte la rue d’Ulm à Paris pour le site de Mont-Saint-Aignan (Rouen), où les collections historiques sont réunies à celles du centre régional de documentation pédagogique (CRDP) de Rouen pour former, à partir du 1er janvier, le Musée national de l’éducation.
En 1986, du 14 mars au 16 octobre, l’INRP prend brièvement le nom d’Institut national de recherche en éducation et formation (INREF).
Entre 1988 et 1991, l’INRP évolue. Il noue des partenariats avec les nouveaux instituts nationaux de formation des maîtres (IUFM). Il devient en 1991 centre d’acquisition et de diffusion de l’information scientifique et technique (CADIST) en science de l’éducation.
Le décret n° 93-288 du 5 mars 1993 réorganise l’INRP en le plaçant sous la tutelle du ministre chargé de l’Enseignement supérieur. Il est chargé d’une mission de recherche en éducation concernant tous les niveaux des enseignements scolaire et supérieur en formation initiale et continue. Il participe à la formation initiale et continue des formateurs. En tant que centre de ressources, il est chargé de réunir, de gérer et de tenir à disposition les acquis de la recherche en éducation. Par l’intermédiaire de sa bibliothèque et du Musée national de l’éducation, il assure la conservation et le développement des collections muséographiques et bibliographiques. À partir du 15 septembre 1999, l’Observatoire national de la lecture (ONL) est rattaché à l'INRP.
Le décret n° 2000-32 du 14 janvier 2000 apporte de nouvelles modifications aux missions de l’INRP et aux articles relatifs aux instances et à l’organisation. Il est investi d’une mission de distinction et d’évaluation des innovations pédagogiques et sa mission de veille scientifique est davantage affirmée.
Décidée à plusieurs reprises depuis 1992, la délocalisation de l’INRP est actée par le Comité interministériel d'aménagement du territoire (CIAT) de décembre 1998. La majeure partie de l’INRP quitte Paris pour s’installer progressivement en région lyonnaise dès la fin de l’année 1998. L’institut occupe d’abord une partie des locaux de l’ancien lycée professionnel Léon-Blum sis à Saint-Fons. Le 4 avril 2001, son siège est officiellement implanté à Lyon. La bibliothèque est transférée à Lyon-Gerland (Bibliothèque Denis Diderot) en juillet 2003. Le bâtiment définitif de l’INRP, construit dans le jardin de l’École normale supérieure (ENS) de Lyon, est inauguré le 20 octobre 2005.
Délocalisé dans le Rhône, l’INRP intègre le pôle universitaire local qui devient en 2007 le pôle de recherche et d’enseignement supérieur (PRES) de Lyon.
Le décret n° 2010-1649 du 28 décembre 2010 porte dissolution de l’INRP à compter du 1er janvier 2011.
En tant que composante de l’ENS de Lyon, l’Institut français d’éducation (IFÉ) prend la suite de l’INRP. Tous les droits, obligations et biens, mobiliers et immobiliers de l’INRP, à l’exception de ceux afférents au Musée national de l’éducation, sont transférés à l’ENS de Lyon où le personnel est également affecté.
