Languages: Italian; Scope and contents: The first general elections in Malta were held between 16 and 20 August 1849. In a new constitution that the British gave to Malta, the number of Council members were increased to 18, of which eight would be elected. 3,767 persons (male) were registered to vote, of which 3,315 cast votes, giving a turnout of 88%. This appeal encourages the electors to vote and keep watch on the developments taking place.
