The UK Migrated Archives Working Group at UCL is launching a free webinar series on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Migrated archives, the very sensitive records from British former colonial rule which were returned to the UK after decolonisation (you can find them on APE at this link). These are incriminating and sensitive collections which were often destroyed or disappeared instead of being repatriated.
This five-part online series aims to raise awareness around the challenges and ethics surrounding the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Migrated archives, raising issues around the repatriation of documentation following decolonisation, and the problem of sensitive archives in general. Eminent experts in the field and Archivists from around the world will discuss this important and long-neglected issue. This is the full calendar: The UK Migrated Archives: Introducing Issues, Challenges and Ethics, Wednesday 19 October, 5pm-6.30pm BST
