Domagoj Kukulj, our Country Manager in Croatia representing the Croatian State Archives, shares an update on the implementation of a new national archival information system in his country: eArhiv.
The Croatian State Archives building in Zagreb.
The eArhiv project has been underway in the Republic of Croatia since June 2024. The Ministry of Culture and Media is the implementing agency, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, the Croatian State Archives, regional state archives and judicial bodies, while the company Ericsson Nikola Tesla is responsible for the development of the system. The creation of eArhiv is a part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Croatia, realised under the auspices of European Union project NextGenerationEU. The Croatian State Archives, as the central archival institution in the Republic of Croatia, has a leading role in the implementation of the new system and educating other archivist colleagues for its use.
The new information system is intended for archivists, creators and custodians of records and archival holdings, as well as researchers and other users. With eArhiv, in the future, users will be able to order holdings for use in archive reading rooms, creators and custodians will be able to initiate transfer and/or disposition of records, while archivists will use the system to organize archival fonds/collections and create inventories, and communicate with users and creators/custodians. Implementation is expected to be completed before the end of 2025.
