From the Stadtarchiv Karlsruhe in Germany, a "pancake race" organised on Fat Thursday in 1981 - participants had to cook and flip pancakes while racing in a relay race.
This is both fun and social distancing compliant, so if you want to organise a new pancake race, here is a traditional German pancake recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
3 eggs
1.5 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 pinch salt
180ml warm milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
95gr plain flour
3 tablespoons melted butter
powdered sugar
strawberries
Preheat the oven to 200°C
1) Combine the eggs, the granulated sugar, salt, milk, vanilla, flour and the butter in a blender and process until smooth.
2) Preheat an oven-safe skillet and butter it. Pour the batter into the heated skillet and then immediately, and carefully, move the skillet to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
3) The pancake is done when it is a rich amber color and the sides have risen considerably.
4) Let cool slightly and then serve with strawberries and/or powdered sugar.
