We are thrilled to announce that Turkey will join Archives Portal Europe thanks to the collaboration with our new Content Provider, the Suna Kıraç Library of Koç University in Istanbul. The country managers for Turkey will be Senem Acar and Mustafa Ergül, archives specialists of the Suna Kiraç Library.
Senem Acar received a MA in Musicology at Duke University (2009) and MLIS at University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) (2013). She gained experience in archives at Duke University Archives and through digitization projects at the UNCG. In 2014, she joined Koç University Suna Kıraç Library as archive specialist. She also worked as the Turkish representative for the RILM (2006-2011), and as consultant for records retention policies of Turkish laws in the field of finances and business for an international database company.
Mustafa Ergül holds a bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Art History from Istanbul University. He subsequently completed his master's degree in 2015 in Art History at Istanbul University. Between 2012 and 2017, he was involved in collection development and archive projects as librarian and archivist at SALT Research. Since 2017 he has worked as an archive specialist in charge of assembling, preserving and managing institutional and special collections at Koç University Suna Kıraç Library. He works in the fields of digital archiving, cultural heritage, collection development and management.
The collaboration with the Suna Kıraç Library started thanks to the Digitise & Upload grant offered by APE; the Library was awarded a grant with a project for the digitisation of a collection illustrating the lives of Turkish soldiers and politicians during World War I and the interwar period - more details on this project soon!
