Początki młyna w Lesznie sięgają 1872 r. Wówczas to Niemiec Ernest Wilhelm Schneider założył w zabudowaniach nieczynnego browaru przedsiębiorstwo - Młyn w Lesznie. W 1894 r. młyn przekształcono w firmę Schneider i Zimer. Jej współwłaścicielami zostali bracia Ernest i Herman Schneider oraz Ernest Zimer. W latach 1898-1904 młyn został znacząco rozbudowany, a Firma Schneider i Zimer stała się jednym z największych i najnowocześniejszych w Polsce w tej branży. Dzienna zdolność przemiałowa wynosiła 200 ton zboża. Po odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości w październiku 1920 r, Firmę Schneider i Zimer przekształcono w towarzystwo akcyjne. Głównymi udziałowcami akcji firmy zostali członkowie niemieckiej rodziny Schneiderów. W okresie okupacji niemieckiej młyn parowy w Lesznie pozostał w rękach Spółki Akcyjnej Schneider i Zimer. Po II Wojnie Światowej do czerwca 1945 r. młyn w Lesznie był zarządzany przez wojska radzieckie, poczym został przekazany polskiej administracji państwowej. Przy pomocy pełnomocnika Rządu polskiego utworzona została Rada Załogi, na czele której stanął Franciszek Borowczyk. Rada ta działała i kierowała zakładem do 1946 r., kiedy to młyn został przejęty przez Związek Spółdzielni Spożywców „Społem” na podstawie dekretu PKWN z dnia 6 września 1944 r. o przeprowadzeniu reformy rolnej. Następnie na podstawie rozporządzenia Ministra Przemysłu i Handlu z dnia 30 kwietnia 1948 r. jak również uchwały Prezydium Rady Nadzorczej Związku Gospodarczego Spółdzielni Spożywców „Społem” z dnia 2 marca 1948 r., Społem przekazało w dniu 1 maja 1948 r. Polskim Zakładom Zbożowym przedsiębiorstwo Młyny Parowe w Lesznie. Młyny Parowe w Lesznie weszły w skład Polskich Zakładów Zbożowych Oddział w Poznaniu. W 1951 r. utworzono zespół młynów, w skład którego weszły oprócz młyna w Lesznie, młyn w Gostyniu, młyn w Rawiczu oraz młyn w Wolsztynie. Zespół młynów działał do 1957 r. w ramach Poznańskich Okręgowych Zakładów Młynarskich. Od tego roku przedsiębiorstwo zaczęło działać na zasadzie własnego, pełnego rozrachunku gospodarczego pod nazwą Zakłady Młynarskie w Lesznie. W 1965 r. nastąpiło połączenie Zakładów Młynarskich w Lesznie z Rejonowymi Zakładami Zbożowymi w Lesznie i powstało nowe przedsiębiorstwo o nazwie: Zakłady Zbożowo-Młynarskie PZZ w Lesznie. Przed połączeniem Zakłady Młynarskie zajmowały się wyłącznie przetwórstwem zbóż na mąkę i produkty uboczne (otręby i odpady użyteczne), a Rejonowe Zakłady Zbożowe w Lesznie zajmowały się skupem i kontraktacją zbóż z terenu powiatów leszczyńskiego i rawickiego. Posiadały też w swej gestii jedyny magazyn zbożowy w Jutrosnie. Po połączeniu Zakłady zbożowo-Młynarskie PZZ w Lesznie zaczęły zajmować się zarówno przetwórstwem jak i skupem oraz kontraktacją. W 1971 r. do Zakładów Zbożowo Młynarskich w Lesznie przyłączone zostały Zakłady Zbożowe w Gostyniu i Kościanie. Zakłady w Kościanie (przed 1971 r.) prowadziły skup zbóż i grochu, kontraktację oraz obrót zbożem i grochem na terenie powiatu kościańskiego. Ze względu na elewator i czyszczalnię grochu mieszczące się w Kościanie, przyjmowano także jęczmień i groch z innych powiatów i województwa. Zakłady te obejmowały swą działalnością następujące obiekty: elewator i czyszczalnię grochu w Kościanie, magazyn zbożowy w Czempiniu, magazyny w Wilkowie Polskim i Bojanowie Starym. Natomiast Zakłady Zbożowe w Gostyniu zajmowały się skupem i kontraktacją zbóż ze swego powiatu. Posiadały magazyny w Gostyniu, Borku, Pępowie, Poniecu i Krobi. W 1970 r. Zakłady Zbożowo-Mlynarskie PZZ w Lesznie przejęły jeszcze magazyn zbożowy w Rawiczu, a w 1971 r. magazyn zbożowy we Wroniawach od byłych Zakładów Zbożowych w Nowym Tomyślu. W 1975 r. przed utworzeniem Wojewódzkiego Przedsiębiorstwa Przemysłu Zbożowo Młynarskiego „PZZ” w Lesznie, Zakłady Zbożowo-Młynarskie PZZ w Lesznie posiadały: młyny w Lesznie, Rawiczu i Wolsztynie, elewator w Kościanie, czyszczalnię grochu w Kościanie oraz magazyny zbożowe w: Bojanowie Starym, Borku, Czempiniu, Gostyniu, Jutrosinie, Krobi, Pępowie, Poniecu, Rawiczu, Wilkowie Polskim oraz we Wroniawach. Wojewódzkie Przedsiębiorstwo Przemysłu Zbożowo Młynarskiego „PZZ” w Lesznie utworzone zostało na podstawie zarządzenia nr 103 Ministra Przemysłu Spożywczego i Skupu z dnia 10 czerwca 1975 r. na bazie byłych Zakładów Zbożowo-Młynarskich w Lesznie, które z dniem 1 lipca 1975 r. zostało zlikwidowane. W skład Przedsiębiorstwa weszły: Młyn w Górze, ul. Fornalskiej 2, Młyn w Kobylinie, ul. Kolejowa 17, Młyn w Lesznie, ul. Przemysłowa 21 oraz Młyn w Rawiczu, ul. Wały Powstańców Wlkp. Nadzór nad przedsiębiorstwem sprawował Minister Przemysłu Spożywczego i Skupu poprzez Centralę Przemysłu Zbożowo-Młynarskiego „PZZ”. Przedsiębiorstwo miało siedzibę w Lesznie i działało na obszarze województwa leszczyńskiego. Przedmiotem działalności przedsiębiorstwa było skupowanie, kontraktacja, składowanie, przetwórstwo i obrót zbożami, rzepakiem, grochem, bobikiem i łubinem pastewnym. W latach 1976-1987 Przedsiębiorstwo przejęło jeszcze elewator zbożowy nr 2 w Kościanie, ul. Szota 1, czyszczalnię grochu w Kościanie, ul. Młyńska 13 oraz dwa spichrze w Kościanie, jeden spichrz w Starym Bojanowie, spichrz zbożowy nr 3 w Gostyniu, ul. Polna 44, dwa spichrze zbożowe w Krobi, dwa spichrze w Pępowie, spichrz zbożowy w Poniecu, ul. Kusza 1, cztery spichrze zbożowe w Borku, ul. Jeżewska 1, spichrz zbożowy w Pogorzeli, dwa spichrze zbożowe we Wschowie, ul. Towarowa 10 oraz spichrz zbożowy w Wyszanowie. W 1992 r. z części majątku Wojewódzkiego Przedsiębiorstwa Przemysłu Zbożowo-Młynarskiego „PZZ” w Lesznie utworzono trzy spółki z o.o. w Lesznie, Górze i Rawiczu. których jedynym udziałowcem przez cały okres ich działalności było Wojewódzkie Przedsiębiorstwo Przemysłu Zbożowo-Młynarskiego „PZZ” w Lesznie. W dniu 19.10.1992 r., utworzono Zakłady Zbożowo-Młynarskie „PZZ” Spółkę z o.o. w Lesznie oraz Zakłady Zbożowo-Młynarskie „PZZ” Spółkę z o.o. w Rawiczu. Natomiast Zakłady Zbożowo-Młynarskie „PZZ” Spółka z o.o. w Górze zostały ustanowione aktem notarialnym spisanym w dniu 2.12.1992 r. i zarejestrowane w Sądzie Rejonowym w Lesznie. Wszystkie spółki działała do 1999 r. i zostały zlikwidowane. 1 lipca 1995 r. Wojewódzkie Przedsiębiorstwo Przemysłu Zbożowo-Młynarskiego „PZZ” w Lesznie przekształcono w Przedsiębiorstwo Przemysłu Zbożowo-Młynarskiego „PZZ Leszno” Spółkę Akcyjną z siedziba w Lesznie, która funkcjonowała do 2001 r., tj. do czasu sprzedania Przedsiębiorstwa.
