Charter of Privileges by George II. Rákóczi, Prince of Transylvania

George II. Rákóczi, Prince of Transylvania confirms the privileges of the Moravian new Christians conferred by Gabriel Bethlen and George I.

In the original charter, issued by Gabriel Bethlen on 4th July 1622, the Prince settle the Moravian new Christians fled from Nikolsburg – also known as Hutterites or Habans – in the Transylvanian Alvinc in county Fehér and bestow house, arable and vineyard upon them.

In return for that they have owed the Prince wine tithe, furthermore handicrafts made in their workshops and work.

George II. Rákóczi allows in his confirmatory charter the new Christians in Alvinc to buy eight vineyards in Borberek, Fehér County in order to enlarge their already existing vineyards.

The hard-working, craftsmen, grape tending, merchant Habans formed ancient Christian communities, living according to the Bible. They had a leading role in the economy boost of Transylvania in the 17th century. The products of their potters, saddlers, knifers became famous and well-known.
